Symptoms:
Muscle tremors, difficulty walking, panting, seizures, drooling, uncontrollable
increase in body temperature due to muscle activity associated with tremors,
respiratory failure, coma and eventually death.
General Information:
Symptoms will generally occur within an hour or two of ingestion. There is no
specific test to diagnose metaldehyde poisoning; usually the diagnosis is made
obvious from the symptoms and environment that the dog was exposed to, death can
occur from a dose as small as 40 milligrams per pound of body weight.
First Aid:
Give milk and induce vomiting. Seek veterinary attention.
