Symptoms:
Vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and generalized
depression, anemia, jaundice, multiple organ failure, coma, seizures and death.
Additional Information:
Common causes of Zink poisoning in pets results from pets ingesting items such
as pennies, make up, metal items coated in Zink, as well as some shampoos and
skin medications. Once absorbed, zinc is transported to the liver largely bound
to plasma proteins. The exact mechanism of zinc toxicity is unknown.
Possibilities include direct damage to red blood cell membranes, damage to red
blood cell organelles, or blockage of biochemical mechanisms within the red
blood cells
First Aid:
Induce vomiting and use activated charcoal slurry, Seek veterinary attention.
