Lily of The Valley Is Poisonous To Pets

 

 

Name: Lily of the Valley

Toxins: cardiac glycosides, convallarin, convalla

Symptoms: Ataxia, vomiting, cardiac arrhythmias, death.

Additional Information: Cardiac glycosides including convallatoxin can be found in the leaves and flowers of the Lily of the Valley.  The toxins primarily affect the hear either causing increased heart rate, heart block or a lowered heart rate with tremors, convulsions and eventually death.

First Aid: Prevent Further Ingestion of the Plant, Induce Vomiting to remove undigested portions of the plant and seek emergency veterinary assistance. Treatment will generally consist of the drug lidocaine.
