“Dogfennel” is highly ambiguous. In many southeastern United States pasture, weed, and extension contexts, Dogfennel more often means Eupatorium capillifolium, a tall native perennial with very finely divided foliage, clusters of small whitish heads, and no obvious white daisy rays. “Chamomile” is also imprecise. Anthecotuloide is one of the most important species-specific names because it connects Stinking Chamomile to contact-allergen chemistry rather than leaving the page with only a generic “chamomile oil” explanation. Biosynthetic research also treats anthecotuloide as an irregular sesquiterpene lactone from Anthemis cotula, supporting its role as a defining chemical marker for this plant’s allergenic profile.
The presence of these lactones does not create a precise veterinary dose. Plant age, tissue, genetics, soil, climate, mechanical damage, flowering stage, drying, and extraction method can all affect chemical exposure. A page written for animal safety should therefore explain the lactone group and dermatitis mechanism without pretending that every plant contains the same concentration or that one missing flower head predicts a fixed outcome.

A second practical distinction is exposure concentration. A few wild stems brushed on the coat, a handful of weeds in hay, a brewed tea, a concentrated essential oil, and a capsule or tincture are not equivalent exposures. The route, dose, product label, and plant identity all matter.
